How to Leave a Gift To

Calgary Seniors Resource Society

In Your Will or Estate Plan

Bequest in Your Will

The most common type of legacy gift. You direct a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or a named asset to Calgary Seniors through your Will. Bequests can be specific (a set dollar amount), residual (a percentage of what remains after other obligations), or contingent (activated only if certain conditions are met).

Sample language: “I give to Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society, charitable registration number 886737352 RR0001, the sum of $_________ [or ___% of the residue of my estate] to be used at the discretion of the organization in support of its mission.”

You can name Calgary Seniors as the beneficiary of an existing or new life insurance policy. This is a cost-effective way to make a significant gift using regular premium payments, and may provide tax benefits to your estate.

By naming Calgary Seniors as a beneficiary on your registered savings accounts, your funds can transfer directly to the organization outside of your Will. This can significantly reduce taxes your estate would otherwise owe.

Donating publicly traded shares or mutual funds directly to Calgary Seniors eliminates the capital gains tax you would pay if you sold those assets first, meaning more of your gift reaches the cause you care about.

In 2025, Calgary Seniors supported 3,094 seniors across our programs, with the help of volunteers, who provided care, rides to appointments, friendly calls, emergency food hampers, and social visits, made possible by the generosity of people like you.

A gift to the General Fund goes where the need is greatest. A gift to the Endowment Fund (held at The Calgary Foundation) grows in perpetuity, generating annual support for seniors for decades and generations to come.

“Some gifts meet an immediate need. Others help shape the future.”
