Caregiver Kindness

Caring for a loved one is an act of deep commitment, but it can also be overwhelming and isolating. Caregiver Kindness is designed to support both caregivers and their care recipients—ensuring that everyone involved has the opportunity to thrive.

Many of the caregivers we support are seniors themselves, providing care for a spouse or, in some cases, an adult child. Through this program, volunteers are matched one-on-one with care giver/recipient pairs, offering companionship and social interaction for the care recipient while also providing a much-needed break for the caregiver. These volunteer connections enrich the lives of care recipients by bringing new energy, conversation, and engagement into their daily routine, while caregivers get the rare opportunity to step away and focus on themselves, even if just for a little while.

Because caregiving circumstances vary widely, every match is unique. Calgary Seniors works closely with caregivers, care recipients, and volunteers to ensure everyone gets the support they need in a way that works for them. Additionally, volunteers occasionally also help coordinate and deliver special care packages for caregivers who may be struggling, offering tangible reminders that they are seen, supported, and appreciated.

At its heart, Caregiver Kindness is about strengthening care partnerships and ensuring no one—neither caregivers nor care recipients—has to navigate their journey alone.
